The names of countries, languages and their people follow their own rules. You must learn them as words.

Interactive exercises

1. Which languages do they speak?

People in Belgium speak Dutch and French.

Danes in Denmark speak Danish.

Greeks in Greece speak Greek.

The Irish in the Republic of Ireland speak English.

Achtung

Did you notice something about the spelling?

All these words are names!

Words like English, German, Irish and Ireland always start with a CAPITAL letter!

Put in the correct names!

The French live in France() and speak French ().

Italians live in Italy () and speak Italian().

The country of the Dutch is called the Netherlands () and they speak Dutch ().

The Poles() in the Republic of Poland ()speak Polish().
